Objectives: Evaluate the level of physical activity (PA) in university students from Lima Norte. Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. In this study we included students from a private university located in the North of Lima. The study was conducted in the second half of 2020. As a measurement instrument, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used. Results: In total, 354 students of both sexes participated, with a median age of 23 years (interquartile range: 29-20), 61.9% (n = 219) female, 34.7% (n = 123) were between 20 and 24 years old. A 57.6% of the students presented moderate PA and 29.9% low PA. In men, the levels of moderate, vigorous and total PA were 300, 600 and 1358 MET-minutes / week, respectively; while in women it was 200, 280 and 986.5 MET-minutes / week, respectively (p <0.001). The frequency of low PA was higher in women compared to men (p <0.001). Low PA occurred in a higher proportion in students under 30 years of age (p = 0.008), in singles (p = 0.005) and in health sciences students (p = 0.002). Conclusions: In university students there was a predominance of moderate PA; however, 3 out of 10 students presented a low level of PA. The promotion of physical activity alternatives in the university community is recommended. Keywords: Motor Activity; Sedentary Behavior; Students; Peru (Source: MeSH, NLM).Downloads
