Induced demand in healthcare services: Between ethics and dishonest business

Demanda inducida en los servicios de salud: Entre la ética y el negocio deshonesto

Authors

Abstract

Induced demand refers to the creation of artificial needs for healthcare services, based on the information asymmetry between healthcare professionals and patients. It is a multifactorial phenomenon, with financial incentives being the primary driving force. Medical practice and that of all health professionals, should continue to prioritize patient well-being in accordance with the family's socioeconomic context, thereby strengthening trust in the medical community and promoting the efficient and ethical management of healthcare resources.
