Resumen

Un alto porcentaje de las víctimas de mordeduras de perro son niños, y el factor de riesgo más importante para las mordeduras en la población infantil es permitir que los perros vivan de forma permanente o parcial dentro del hogar. La reducción de la incidencia de mordeduras de perro en niños requiere la educación tanto de los menores como de sus padres, enfatizando que cualquier perro puede morder, independientemente de su raza, y que todas las interacciones entre niños y perros deben estar estrictamente supervisadas. No obstante, es poco probable que la educación por sí sola sea suficiente para prevenir las mordeduras. Consideramos que la frecuencia de mordeduras de perro en niños disminuirá significativamente cuando los perros se mantengan fuera del hogar.
